i met Alexcalibur when i was bartending at Arlene’s Grocery. we worked sunday nights together from time to time and got pretty friendly. i asked if he would pose for me and we set up a photo shoot at my apartment in brooklyn. he came over and ,i’ll never forget this, as i was setting up the light i asked him if he thought there was sexual tension between us. he just looked at me and started singing and dancing. i started shooting. here is an image from that day…
the first time i saw him perform a couple years back i was just blown the fuck away. he’s like rock meets fuck meets sweat meets art, ian curtis’ voice and iggy pop presence. but amp all that by like 10 and there you go.
alex lent me a point and shoot digital camera, which i refused to use for my art before. i made a lot of images with that camera. it opened my mind to self portraiture and action images. i don’t think i ever thanked him for that.
